Dear Parents/Guardians,
The Grade 7 Core French Program is presented to the students through a communicative approach, which involves the development of basic oral communication, reading and writing skills. Students are encouraged to speak French at all times in the classroom and to use “les expressions utiles” posted at the front of the room.
I recommend that the students keep their French notes in a three-ring binder. They will also need these items:
-lined paper and 1 divider
-blue or black pen and one red pen for underlining titles and dates
-a pencil, eraser, ruler, coloured pencils or markers
-a French/English dictionary (Larousse Pocket Dictionary is a good example) or access to an electronic device for translation purposes.
The textbook used in the program (On y va 1! - Grade 7) will stay at school, as the texts are utilized within the class. Material that we focus on will be given to the student on a handout or copied into their notes. Additional resources such as French videos, music, poetry, short stories and picture books will also be used to reinforce French vocabulary and culture.
Students are expected to arrive to class on time with their materials. It is the responsibility of the student to find out what work they missed if they are absent and to get caught up as soon as possible.
Homework will consist of reviewing vocabulary, practicing for their oral presentations, preparing for unit tests and completing any work that wasn’t completed in class. Students are encouraged to use their agendas to record their homework. It is my intention to list any homework assignments, upcoming tests, etc. on the website, however the students should still manage their homework responsibilities by recording them in their agenda or electronic device.
Communication between school and home is essential for your child’s success. If you have any questions or concerns feel free to contact me at school at (613) 823-1663, ext. 3053. Please leave a message and I will return your call. If you go to the school website, a link to this website is available under the Homework link in your child's homeroom. I’ve listed some resources which you may find useful.
I look forward to meeting you at the Program Night.
Sincerely, *Please indicate in your child’s
agenda that you’ve read this letter.
